In this section you can find my projects from my Bachelor’s studies. The projects are sorted chronological and start with „Escape the Island“ which is my very first game project with Unity 3D.

Escape The Island (2013)

(Game Engineering: 4th Semester)

This is my first 3D game project and my first project with Unity 3D. With this game I made my first experiences in asset creation and game programming.
During the project I was in a team of 2. Neither of us had any previous experience in game development at the time of development.

The game is intended to be a horror game and is kept very dark. The player is supposed to feel very helpless despite having a gun with ballistic projectiles. To this end, the player only has a flashlight to illuminate the immediate surroundings.
The player starts on the coast of an island where she is stranded. Now she must find a way to escape from the island. This requires finding a transmitter that calls for help. To achieve this, the player must reach the roof of an old hospital. To enter this building, two keys must first be found in other buildings on the island.
During the game, the player will have to fight against some dark creatures that are on the island and try to kill her.

Paper World (2014)

(Game development: 6th semester)

This project was created as a final project in the course Game Development with Unity 3D. It had to be created in 10 days at the end of the semester. For grading purposes, the game had to achieve a list of different criteria:

  1. dimensions and positions: Logical use of sizes between game elements.
  2. scene hierarchy: Logical use of hierarchy in Unity 3D.
  3. inspector variables: Usage of variables in Unity 3D’s inspector.
  4. light source usage: Logical usage of light sources in the game.
  5. materials: use of different materials to color objects and use of physical materials.
  6. timeline animation: use of at least one animation.
  7. prefabs and instances: Create at least one prefab and instantiate it via code.
  8. raycasts: use of raycasts in the project.
  9. message system: use of message system in the project.
  10. sounds: use of different sounds.
  11. external data: Reading external data from a file and using it in the game.
  12. triggers and colliders: logical use of triggers and colliders.
  13. GUI: Implement a GUI in your project.

The game was inspired by Super Mario 64 and Zelda Ocarina of Time. The player controls a character in a third-person perspective. As in Super Mario 64, the player must complete small tasks to obtain pencils (equivalent to stars). To attack the enemies and to open passages, the player can use his sword.
The game uses a low-poly art style. All assets in this project were created by myself.

Memoria (2014)

(Thesis project: 7th Semester)

This project was part of my Bachelor’s Thesis. It was developed in a 2-member team. All assets in the following screenshots were created by myself. The GUI was created by my teammate.

The game is some kind of a first person shooter with elements of a first person puzzle game. The player has a rifle with elementary ammunition which can be switched. Elementary advantages and disadvantages against enemies need to be calculated. Some puzzles in the game world need to be solved with the right elementary ammunition.
The game world itself is settled in a steampunk themed universe. In the story of this game, the comatose protagonist lost his memories and needs to restore them, by re-experiencing special parts of his life.

Thesis (2014)

(7th Semester)

The main topic of my Bachelor’s Thesis is about player guidance in computer games. The thesis was written as a 2-member team because we could research more different aspects of the topic this way.
We developed a playable test environment to research the reactions of the player at different strategies of player guidance. This test environment was made of different test chambers. The following pictures show some of those chambers.
